Got an email today that started out "I've left you two voice mails in the past two days. I'm being persistent because I really believe that our service would be of great benefit to your company, and I really want to talk to you about it." Really? Because you haven't left me any voice mails at all. Not one.
If you're trying to start a productive relationship with me or my organization, it is generally best not to start out by lying to me. And, incidentally, this person apparently felt that stating that he had left me two voice mails made it okay for him to also not abide by CAN-SPAM laws. No opt-out link was provided, and no corporate address.
I replied "REMOVE" with the note, "By the way, you have not left me any voice mails." I have not heard back.
As an email marketing specialist, I open most emails I receive. I am always looking for something new to learn. I find something every single day. I did not expect this lesson today, though.
Have you received similarly presumptive emails?
